Music: Solo classical soiree at Bengal Entertainment Report A solo classical musical soiree by Samina De Urmi, an expatriate classical artiste, was held at Bengal Shilpalaya in the city on Monday. The artiste presented 'Thumri,' 'Ghazal' and other songs at the function. Veteran artiste Mahmudur Rahman Benu, who is based in London at present, introduced Samina to the audience before her performance. Luva Nahid Chowdhury, Director General of Bengal Foundation, among others, were present on the occasion. Samina De completed her graduation in English Literature from Dhaka University. She grew up in a culturally oriented family. She received a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and Education of India and trained in classical music under eminent music exponent Pandit Amarnath. She also received her lessons in 'Thumri' from the legendary Indian artiste Shova Gurtu. She has so far performed in Britain, Switzerland, Canada, USA and India. She is also a regular classical singer on All India Radio and 'Doordarshan.'
