Hollywood: Angelina steps into Tom Cruise’s shoes

Los Angeles, Agency

The espionage thriller Edwin A Salt, originally intended as a vehicle for Mission: Impossible hero Tom Cruise, is being rewritten for Angelina Jolie now that Cruise is no longer attached, variety reports.

Jolie has not yet signed on to the picture, but she is reportedly close to a deal and changes are already underway in hopes that all will go according to plan. The Bone Collector helper Philip Noyce will still direct, but the film, about a CIA agent who's accused of spying for the Russians, will get a new title.

Cruise and several other actors had been eyeing the project, but after Cruise fell through it was Jolie's interest that got Columbia Pictures seriously thinking about a rewrite.

And then, what with her previous success as a gun-toting bad-ass in Mr & Mrs Smith ($186 million at the box office) and her latest success with kicking ass in Wanted ($132.6 million), the studio must have figured, Why not?

Jolie's next big-screen appearance will be in Clint Eastwood's Changeling, in theatres October 24, but this now-untitled thriller would conceivably mark the mother of six's return to moviemaking following the birth of her twins last month.

Bollywood: Shooting 'Bachna Ae Haseeno’ was an adventure: Minissha Lamba

A ride on the highest roller coaster, zooming on bikes and venturing into the sea - Bollywood actress Minissha Lamba has done it all with co-star Ranbir Kapoor while shooting for "Bachna Ae Haseeno".

"We did a whole lot of things while shooting for the film including riding on the highest roller-coaster in the world. We also rode on huskies and bikes. In fact, one day Ranbir and I were asked to step into the seawater for a scene. We were dreading it, but our director insisted and so we had to do that as well," Minissha said here.

The actress was in the capital along with director Siddharth Anand and co-stars Ranbir, Deepika Padukone and Bipasha Basu to promote "Bachna Ae Haseeno", which releases Friday. The film traces the love life of a man from the time he is 18 years old to when he is 30, and Minissha plays Ranbir's first love interest.

Talking about her role Minissha said: "Mahi is a 17-year-old girl from Amritsar who believes in a fairytale ending of a story. She has very simple expectations from life. She wants to fall in love and get married. I feel there is a little bit of Mahi in all of us." Ever since the film's promos have come, Minissha is seen as a trendsetter of sorts thanks to her unconventional, trendy and youthful look in the film. "I'm the only one who is Indianised in the film. My role is set in the year 1996 and I play a Punjabi girl. But we didn't want the look to be typically Punjabi. We wanted it to keep it funky and slightly modern.

"My character Mahi has worn patiala salwars with spaghetti tops and kurtis with capris. In fact, the patiala salwars with tops has become a rage among college students in Mumbai. I don't know about Delhi though," Minissha quipped. A Punjabi by origin, this is not the first time she has played a Punjabi girl.

"I played a Punjabi girl in Sanjay Gupta's 'Dus Kahaniyaan'. But in 'Bachna Ae Haseeno', my role is 180 degrees from that of Mini in 'Dus Kahaniyaan'."

"Mahi is a city-born and hip Punjabi girl. Her family is rich and she goes on a trip around the world unlike Mini who came from a strict rural background," she said.

Minissha, who wanted to become a journalist before entering Bollywood with "Yahaan", played a scribe in Samar Khan's "Shaurya". "Now I want to play a war correspondent," she said.
