Three suspected robbers were killed and two others suffered critically injuries when a group of villagers beat them up mercilessly suspecting them as robbers at Narendrapur Rupdia Railgate on Khulna-Jessore highway here at about 11 Friday night.

Police and Hospital sources said dead were identified as Abdur Rouf, 52, Kamrul, 25, and Majed, 25, and injured Shahidul, 30, and Masud, 28. All of them hail from Jessore Sadar Upazila of the district.

The sources said suspected muggers were coming from Monirampur Bazar by the private car and refused to stop the vehicle as the locals there challenged them. The villagers then informed the matter to their fellows at Razarhat and Rupdia Bazar over cell phones.

Being informed, the agitated villagers waylaid the car Rupdai and beat up the onboard five mercilessly.
