BCC mayor-elect vows to ensure corruption-free citizen services

The mayor-elect in Barisal City Corporation, Shawkat Hossain Hiron, on Thursday vowed to rid off the organisation from all sorts of corruption and said he would start his new assignment through the fulfillment of basic needs of the people in most neglected wards of BCC.

While talking with journalists he said that he will never announce any unrealistic promise, but will try whole heartedly to run BCC by best using of limited resources with transparency and accountability.

Planned urbanization would be my motto and to serve the citizen I shall work as their servant, not as the father of the city, Hiron announced.

'I have already identified 10 most neglected wards where the dwellers are deprived of their basic needs from the city corporation,' the mayor-elect told.

The mayor-elect also assuring to give priority in supplying safe water for the city dwellers said he would make conservancy department stronger and take effective measures for managing the garbage.

Admitting that the roads of the corporation were in bad shape, Hiron assured to repair those gradually.

He said that he would start taking action against corrupt officials and employees of the corporation after his taking office.

'I shall take action against the corrupt officials and employees of the corporation who were involved with corruptions', Hiron said.

Hiron, also an Awami League leader, claimed that the past mayor had failed to fulfil the demands and aspirations of the city people and his election had been a result of this.

Replying to newsmen, Hiron said that he would not tolerate any favoritism and act neutrally coming out of party politics.

'I will work with all the newly elected corporation councilors defying their nepotism political identity to make a better Barisal city,' he asserted.

He also pledged to work for the city dwellers irrespective of party and opinion affiliations.

'The corporation will be open to all and I shall regularly meet with the city dwellers in the corporation to listen to their complaints and suggestions,' Hiron declared.

Hiron earlier visited different wards of BCC and thanked the people for voting him and sought assistance from all quarters to perform his responsibilities.
