Documentary: Film on poet Shamsur Rahman screened Entertainment Desk A documentary film on poet Shamsur Rahman titled 'Shamsur Rahman: A Pen Against the Gun' was screened at the Alliance Francaise in the capital Thursday evening. Amirul Arham has directed the film. The event was organised by the Alliance Francaise, Dhaka. Eminent poet Nirmalendu Goon was present as chief guest and inaugurated the occasion. Speakers discussed on the life and works of poet Shamsur Rahman at the function. Speakers said that the poet Shamsur Rahman is the voice of Bangladesh. A poet, journalist, philosopher, humanist, he is also the voice of freedom. He belongs to a generation of young poets claiming the legacy of Tagore. His poems evoke the history of the country, the suffering of Bangladeshis and of the world. His (Shamsur Rahman) great friendship with the director allows us to discover their intimacy in Bangladesh and in Paris where he was invited to the House of Poetry in 2000. The premier show of the film was held at the auditorium of Guimet Museum in Paris and in Bangladesh it is shown for the first time, said the organisers. Filmmaker Amirul Arham was born in Bangladesh and now lives and works in France. He directs films and documentaries there.
