Mass dacoity committed in Agailjhara upazila BSS, Barisal Daring dacoities were committed in six houses in Agailjhara upazila on Friday night and looted cash money, gold ornaments, valuables and mobile phone sets worth over Taka 10 lakh, police said. Local people caught dacoit leader Ali Hossain, 30, and his associate Belayet Hossain, 28, from Valukshi village under Agailjhara upazila and handed over them to police. At least 15 people were injured in these dacoities. Relevant sources said, a gang of armed dacoits numbering 18/20 entered into Hawlader Bari in Valukshi village under Agailjhara upazila of the district at 12 midnight on Friday and committed dacoities in the houses of businessman Zakir Hawlader, former headmaster Saidur Rahman and Jubadal leader Jamil Hawlader. The dacoits beat Jamil, 35, Abtabun Nessa, 98 and Najira Begum, 30 mercilessly. Later, the dacoits entered into the houses of Kazi Mosarrof, Kazi Abdul Majid and Motin Hawlder of the same village one after anthor by breaking open the doors. Mostafijur Rahman, 25, Kazi Monirul Islam, 30, Jaida Begum, 23, Rehana Begum, 30, Poly, 12, and Delwara Begum, 40, were injured by the dacoits. Hearing hue and cry local people gheraoed the areas and the dacoits hurled three crude bombs on them injuring six persons including Siddiqur Rahman,50 and Alauddin,28, the sources added. They were admitted to Agailjhara health complexes. The dacoits looted cash money 38,000/, 32 vories of gold ornaments, five mobile phone sets and valuables worth about Taka 10 lakh from the houses. Students ransack dining room at Barisal Women’s College protesting hike of meal charges UNB, Barisal Agitated students of Barisal Govt Women's College hostel staged demonstration and ransacked its dining room early Friday protesting 30 percent increase of daily meal charges. Female students of Rowshanjahan Hostel alleged that hostel superintendent Bashirul Huq on Thursday evening served a notice fixing daily meal charges of Tk 40 per head from Tk 30 with effectfrom Saturday. When the hostel authorities forced the students to receive the monthly meal-cards with increased rates on Thursday night, they started agitation protesting the decision. At one stage the authorities locked the main gate of the hostel at about 10pm. Later, the agitated students broke open the lock at about 12:30am and assembled in front of the main gate of the college. They chanted various slogans demanding removal of the hostel super and withdrawal of the new meal charges. Prof Ramijuddin, principal of the college, rushed in and brought the situation under control with the help of other teachers late at night. Khaleda Parvin, assistant super of the hostel, said following price hike of essentials, the authorities decided to increase daily meal charges.
