The residential students of Mother Bux Hall of Rajshahi University (RU) severely beat up a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) cadre of RU unit on Friday midnight as he allegedly collected extortion from general students.

Campus sources said RU JCD unit activist Rajib, a residential student of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall went to the Mother Bux hall room no 148 and hunting a student named Sarwar on Friday. Sources said, Sarwar one of the residential student of the room No 148.

As he failed to find Sarwar then Rajib demanded toll to Karim and Bariqul two roommates of Sarwar Tk 500. On the time, a tussle was held between Rajib and Karim.

At a one stage, JCD cadre Rajib stabbed Karim with sharp weapon and tried to leave the place. On the time Barikul raised an alarm shouting 'dacoits, dacoits', the residential students rushed to the spot, caught Rajib and beat him mercilessly. Rajib jumped from second floor of the hall to save himself but agitating student caught him again.

On information, police and hall provost went to the spot and rescued JCD activist Rajib in critical condition. Police recovered two sharp weapons searching Rajib's body.

Police also arrested three students including Sarwar, Barikul and Karim for interrogation on the same night. Sources said, Rajib is now undergoing treatment at the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) under police custody.

When contacted Motiher Police Station, duty officer SI Aktar told the correspondent that three were arrested for interrogation.

When contacted RU proctor Enamul Haque, said we take the incident seriously and take initiative for prevent such kind of incident.
