Phensidyl recovered in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, August 03: Police recovered 228 bottles of phensidyl syrup from a shop at Itakhola bus stand market in Shibpur upazila on Dhaka-Sylhet highway on Wednesday. Police said acting on secret information, they recovered the drugs searching a decorators' shop and arrested shop owner Abul Miah, 30 and Majibar, 35. A case was filed against them under Narcotics Control Act, reports UNB.

Day labourer killed falling from tower in Sylhet

SYLHET, August 03: A day labourer was killed falling from a GrameenPhone tower in Golapganj upazial Tuesday morning. Local people said Ibrahim Miah, 23, fell on to the ground from the under-construction tower while working on it at about 10am. Ibrahim hailed from Pangkhai village in Sadar upazila died on the way to Osmani Medical College Hospital. A UD case was filed, reports UNB.

4 held with arms in Satkhira

SATKHIRA, August 03: Police arrested four people, including a fugitive convict, along with three firearms and ammunition from Kashibati in Kaliganj upazila on Wednesday. The arrested were identified as Ashraf Mir, 50, Mojibor Sana, 80, Aminul Islam, 38, and Sadekul Islam, 35. Of them, Ashraf Mir was sentenced to life term imprisonment in a case. Acting on a tip off, police raided the house of Ashraf in Kashibati in the afternoon and recovered one rifle, one revolver and one shutter gun, four cartridges and one bullet and arrested them. A case was filed, reports UNB.

Seven robbers arrested in Habiganj

HABIGANJ, August 03: Seven suspected robbers were arrested from Laskarpur rail gate in Shayestaganj thana on Dhaka-Sylhet highway on Tuesday night. The arrested are M Motaleb, 38, Aktar Mia, 34, Abdul Quddus, 28, Humayun Mia, 40, Ataur Rahman, 28, Jewel Ahmed, 25, and Tapan Kumar Roy, 35. On secret information, highway police arrested them when they were taking preparation for committing a dacoity. A case was filed against them, reports UNB.

Father, daughter killed in Narsingdi road mishap

NARSINGDI, August 03: A man and his minor daughter were crushed under the wheels of a bus at Sahebprotap in Sadar upazila on Dhaka-Narsingdi road early Thursday. The dead were identified as Amir Hossain, 35, and his daughter Amena Akther, 4. Witnesses said the Dhaka bound bus from Narsingdi town knocked down the man and his daughter while overtaking another bus, killing both of them on the spot at about 5.30am. Police recovered the bodies of the victims and sent those to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed, reports UNB.

20 shops gutted in Noakhali

NOAKHALI, August 03: Fire gutted 20 shops at Shamsul Haq Miahr bazar in Subornochar upaizla here Wednesday. Local traders said the fire originated from a tea stall early in the morning in the market and soon engulfed the adjoining grocery, tailoring, pharmacy and bakery shops. Fire fighters on information rushed to the spot from Maizdee town and brought the blaze under control with the help of local people. The affected shop owners claimed that cash and valuables worth Tk 1 crore were gutted in the blaze, reports UNB.
