A housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her husband for dowry at Mollan village in Sadar upazila early Wednesday.

Police said Tariqul Islam beat his wife Samira Begum, 25, mother of three children, to death following a quarrel over dowry at about 3am.

Family sources said Tariqul used to torture his wife for dowry since their marriage nine years ago. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue for autopsy. Tariqul and his family members fled the scene soon after the killing.

Another report from Jalampur adds: Momena Yasmin, Hasna, 40, wife of retired army official Sajjadul Karim, was hacked to death by unidentified assailants at Chhoto Gaziapara village in Sadar upazila on Tuesday midnight.

The incident took place when Momena was sleeping with her daughter.

The assailants swooped on her while her husband was working in his poultry farm near his house.

The reason behind the murder could not be known immediately. A case was filed.

Police super Khandakar Faruq Ahmed and Sadar thana OC Firoz Khan visited the spot.
