The government moved the application for stay as it prefers leave to appeal against the July 24 HC ruling that also declared the Ordinance illegal and ultra vires to the Constitution.

The Chamber Court also turned a deaf ear to an application moved by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for staying interim bail granted by the High Court to former BNP lawmaker MA Hashem on July 16.
