34,97,095 voters in city: EC publishes draft list

The number of voters in Dhaka City has dropped by 4 lakh to 34,97,095 in the new draft list, compared to those enlisted in the previous electoral roll published in 2006.

Election Commission (EC) on Sunday published the draft list of voters in the capital city with their photographs.

Citizens could see the voters' list for 15 days and submit their claims, objections or proposals for correction, deletion, or inclusion of any names.

EC commissioner Brig Gen M Sakhawat Hossain on Sunday told reporters that the draft list will be kept open for common people in the city corporation ward offices, district election office (DEO), thana election offices (assistant registration officers' office (ARO) and Dhaka Cantonment Board office. The eligible persons whose names were not enlisted as voters, may apply to the Revising Authority (RA) through filling up the Form no 2 and 6 of the EC. The forms would be available in the DEO and ARO offices and office of the Revising Authority (RA). The forms might be downloaded from the web site - www.ees.gov.bd also.

The EC has appointed four RA to settle the disputes on draft voters' list, EC sources said.

Additional Deputy Commission (ADC)-General has been appointed RA for the voters' area under Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) ward no 1, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 37, 38, 39 and 40 and areas under Uttara, Gulshan, Sabujbag and Tejgaon thana.

Additional Deputy Commission (ADC)-Revenue has been appointed RA for the voters' area under DCC ward no- 58, 59, 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 74, 75, 76, 77, 78, 80, 81, 82, and 83 and areas under Lalbag and Sutrapur thana.

Additional Deputy Commission (ADC)-Land Acquisition has been appointed RA for the voters' area under DCC ward no- 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 68, 69, 70, 71, 72, 73, 84, 85, 86, 88, 89 and 90 and areas under Motijeel, Kotwali and Demra thana.

Cantonment executive officer has been appointed RA for the Cantonment area, EC sources said.

The revising authority will arrange hearing on the applications after August 11, the sources said.
