Naming of proposed medical college in Pabna after Dr Rabbi demanded UNB, Dhaka Shaheed Dr Fazle Rabbi Foundation has demanded the naming of the proposed medical college in Pabna after the martyred intellectual for paying respect to his memory. The foundation placed their demand at a press conference held at the National Press Club here yesterday. In a written statement, foundation president Shaheen Reza Noor said many organizations have been named after the martyred freedom fighters, intellectuals in different areas of the county. But, in many respects, political views were there behind the decision at that time, he added. He expressed hope that the present caretaker government would take action in naming the medical college neutrally. The statement stated that in 1971 Dr Rabbi provided treatment to the freedom fighters taking risk on his own life and fell victim to the wrath of the occupation forces and their collaborators. The collaborators picked him up on the eve of the independence and later his body was recovered from Rayerbazar killing field on December 18, 1971. The foundation drew attention to the Chief Adviser, Education Adviser and Health Adviser and demanded to pay gratitude to the contribution of Shaheed Dr Fazle Rabbi in the liberation war. Former Principal of Dhaka Medical College Dr Waliullah, Dr Rashid-E-Mahbub, Dr Mujibul Haq and poet Asad Chowdhury were, among others, present in the press conference.
