A young man was sentenced to life imprisonment by a court here on Monday for raping a woman in Mohanganj upazila of the district in 2003.

Judge of District Children and Women Repression Prevention Tribunal ASM Salauddin Khan delivered the verdict. The convict is Abdullah, 28, son of Maniruddin of village Panu under Mohanganj upazila.

He was also fined Taka 5000, in default, to suffer one year more rigorous imprisonment.

The prosecution story, in brief, is that Abdullah stormed into the bedroom of the victim on the night of August 30 in 2003 and raped her.

After the incident, she filed a case with Netrakona

Magistrate Court against Abdullah. Mohanganj police submitted chargesheet before the court against the accused. After examining witnesses and evidence, the judge pronounced the verdict.
