Criteria for university recruitment

Recruitment of teachers in university should be on the basis of higher degree, experience and good publications. But in our country priority is given on age. for example, recruitment of Lecturer is 30 years and assistant professor is 35 years of age.

Such type of age barrier are limiting factor for selecting the best candidates for teaching personnel. Because after completion of masters, seeking scholarship and obtaining doctoral degree, more time is needed. Without doctoral degree and good publications in reputed journal, a teacher in appropriate in every sense.

In abroad, all universities first recruitment position from assistant professor. For this they need doctoral degree with post doctoral experience as well as good international publications. I think we should follow that suit for our quality education in universities. In this way political identity and favourism will be declines which is commonly exercised now. Fair selection will be possible.

Another side is that, getting appointment as a lecturer, soon, he/she leaves abroad for higher study for a period of 5-7 years, during this time, the university doesnt get any service from him. On the other hand he is fully paid from government. Sometimes these teachers doesnt come back at all and the country missed them for good. Recently some 172 teachers from DU left the country for good, which we came to know from daily national newspaper.

So, recruitment directly from Assistant Professor post without strict age barier but considering higher degree can be mostl efficient and economical way on recruiting a teacher in the university. Country will get a qualified teacher as well as continued service from him. Can we think it for country's greater interest and quality education?
