Manirul Islam, Deputy Election Commissioner and Returning Officer of Barisal City Corporation Election said that 1,79,293 voters including 91,351 male and 87,942 female voters. The number of voters in last BCC election was 2,18,925.

Voters could cast their votes in 471 booths of the 91 centres in 30 wards of the city on August 4, 2008.

Total 1504 officials including 91 presiding officers, 471 assistant presiding officers and 942 polling officers will perform duties of taking and counting votes in those centres and booths. Five hundred and sixty two ballot boxes have been prepared for collecting votes.

Two hundred and thirty areas in 45 square kilometres under Barisal City Corporation have been divided in to thirty wards.

Besides, one city mayor, voters will elect 30 general ward councilors for 30 wards and ten female reserve seats each for every three wards, DD of EC added.
