Police in a series of drives arrested seven members of an organised gang of fake currency traffickers syndicate and seized huge quantity of fake currency notes from different places in three northern districts on Wednesday, police said.

A special police team of Ghoraghat Thana led by its OC arrested Shaju, 23, of village Chopagari and Abdul Khaleque, 23, of village Patshaow from Nurjahanpur village in Ghoraghat upazila and recovered 11 fake denominations of Taka 100 notes. As per their confession, the police arrested another Shaju, 20, and seized 33 fake denomination of Taka 100 notes from his possession from the adjoining village Kucherpara in the upazila.

As per confession of Shaju, 20, police arrested Jahangir, 24, and recovered four fake denomination of Taka 100 notes from village Patshaow and arrested Khorshed Alam, 45, from village Kolabari in Dinajpur.

Later, the police team arrested Habibar Rahman, 55, from village Batiokamari in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur and arrested Abdullah Hil Kafi alias Pinto, 45, from village Sukhorhil in Mohadebpur upazila of Naogaon.

The arrested person during interrogation provided important information to police about their organised gang of fake currency note traffickers syndicate working in the northern region of the country.

A case was filed against the arrested persons with Ghoraghat police station in this connection and they were sent to jail hajat when police produced them before a Dinajpur court, the sources said.
