A trial Court here on July 9 sentenced six top listed terrorists to 30 years rigorous imprisonment on charges of violating public safety in the metropolis around seven years back.

Special Tribunal Judge for Public Safety Violation Crime Prevention (PSVCP) Abdur Rashid Mian found the convicts guilty under sections 4/7(B)/10 of PSVCP law and pronounced the verdict in a crowded courtroom.

The convicts are identified as Benzir, Farhad Ali Mian, Razib, Rajon Uddin, Farid Uddin and Zaheed Uddin.

The tribunal also fined them Taka 30,000 each, in default, to suffer three years more behind the bars. Of them, Farhad, Zaheed and Razib have been absconding since the incident. According to the prosecution, the convicts in association with some of their accomplices equipped with firearms and lethal weapons attacked Tariqul Islam on June 28, 2001 while he was selling entrance tickets among the visitors at a local amusement park as its manager. The miscreants snatched Taka 13,000 and other valuables from his possession. Subsequently, they decamped with the booty.

Victim Tariqul had lodged a case with Boalia police station in this connection on the same day and on completion of investigation, police submitted charge sheet to the court accusing them.

After examining eight prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidence the court handed down the verdict.

Special Public Prosecutor Lokman Ali appeared in the case on behalf of the State while Advocate Rashedunnabi defended the accused.
