5 live bombs recovered in Jhenidah

JHENIDAH, July 13: Police recovered five live bombs from a residence at Chaklapara in the town early on Thursday. Acting on a tip-off, the law enforcers raided the residence of Sumon, alleged criminal, and recovered the bombs which were kept in a poly bag under the stair of the residence. The recovered bombs were taken to thana. None was, however, arrested in this connection, reports UNB.

Fugitive convict arrested in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, July 13: Police arrested a fugitive convict from Kachharipara in Kishoreganj upazila on Tuesday. Acting on a tip-off, police raided the house of the fugitive convict Mohammad Ali, 45, in the afternoon. Sensing their presence, Mohammad Ali tried to flee the scene but village police after a hot chase arrested him. Police said notorious robber Mohammad Ali, accused in a number of cases, was sentenced to 16 years imprisonment in three cases, including robbery in absentia, reports UNB.

2 crushed under wheels of train in Natore

NATORE, July 13: Two people were crushed under the wheels of a train in separate places in Sadar upazila Thursday morning. Local people said a woman was crushed under the wheels of Rajshahi-bound Uttara Express at Kalikapur while a man at Fakirpara. Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately. Police sent the bodies to hospital morgue for autopsy, reports UNB.

One suspect of police killing held

NATORE, July 13: The main suspect of police killing and arms looting at Taherpur in Bagmara uapzila of Rajshahi was arrested from Somsk-holshi village in Noldanga thana here Wednesday night. Police said they arrested the main suspect extremist leader Jalal from the house of his second wife. He was handed over to Bagmara thana after interrogation. A gang of extremists shot dead a policeman, injured four others and snatched five firearms from them in an attack on a police patrol team at Taherpur on May 2, reports UNB.

One killed in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, July 13: A middle aged man was killed by unidentified assailants in Sadar upazila on Tuesday night. Police and family sources said Jamiruddin, 50, of Gopalpur village went out of his house Tuesday morning but didn't return the whole night. After a hectic search, family members found the body of Jamiruddin hanging from a tree at nearby Sabudkhali on Wednesday morning, reports UNB.

RANGPUR, July 13: Rapid Action Battalion members arrested a man along with two pipe guns at Janki Guriakhal village in Sadar upazila Wednesday morning Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB arrested Rashedul Kabir from his residence at about 6.30 am. As per his statement, the elite force recovered two country made pipe guns from under the soil of his house. Later, he was handed over to the police and a case was filed against him under the Arms Act. Kabir was involved in various crimes since long, police said, reports UNB.

150 sacks of Indian chemical fertiliser seized in Magura

MAGURA, July 13: Members of Bangladesh Rifles seized 150 sacks of Indian chemical (Potash) fertilizer from a truck and arrested two people at Shimulia on Magura-Jessore road on Monday. Acting on a tip off, a team of border guards raided the Dhaka bound truck from beanpole and recovered the fertilizer. They seized the truck and arrested its driver and helper in this connection., reports UNB.
