Agri-varsity in city centre
This refers to opinion of Professor M. Zahidul Haq in The New Nation, July 10, 2008, in opposing above subject. I can understand this gentleman's feelings as a SAU Professor. I tried to focus on our country's interest and he tried to highlight SAU's interest. He has already informed us that in the beginning this university was given 300 acres by the British India government, which has subsequently been reduced to the present 85 acres of land. Most important side is that this 300 acres land was only for one faculty. Now it is a speicalist agri-versity and needs to include additional 5-6 faculties, that means it needs more than 1500 acres.
For example BAU in Mymensingh is stading on 1700 acres of land. We know that agricultural study is totally practical knowledge. He called a public opinion as irrelevant and uncalled, yes it would be that type in 1938, not now, when we need to plannig and decentralizing our city for future. You can't give any example of an agri-varsity which is present in the heart of capital specially near the National Parliament, planning and election commission in the world.
Therefore the city has a big scope to decentralise itself within 85 acres of land, by shifting this new university to another important agroecological zone quickly. Otherwise it will be a burden against proper planning capital city for future. When city's adverse weather contains excessive amount of carbon monoxide, lead, ozone and there is also acute scarcity of water, then this university's student and teachers will hardly be able to carry on research with such agri items as rice, jute, pulses, vegetables, fruits, fish, poultry, cow, and goats.
