Department of Social Welfare has distributed stipend among disabled students of different institutions in the district during the last fiscal year. The aim of distribution of stipend was to help disabled students continue their studies for achieving self-reliance.

Under the progamme a total of Taka 3.39 lakh were distributed among 168 students from Primary to University level. Of the amount Taka 2,37,600 were distributed among the primary students, Taka 91,800 among secondary students while Taka 3,600 was given to a college student and Taka 6,000 was given to a university student.

Talking to BSS, Deputy Director of the Department of Social Welfare M. Afzal Hossain said the welfare programme for the disabled students was taken by the present government to ensure welfare to the disabled.

The disabled students will get stipend at a rate of Taka 300 per month at primary level, Taka 450 at secondary level, Taka 600 at higher secondary level and Taka 1,000 at university level.
