Anti-adulteration drive: Meena Bazar nandan fined
Staff Reporter
A mobile court realized Tk 150,000 as fine from Meena Bazar and Nandan Department Store in Dhanmondi yesterday in an anti-adulteration operation.
Magistrate Anwar Pasha led the operation in which RAB and BSTI officials took part.
The first drive targeted Meena Bazar, which was fined Tk 100,000 for not using BSTI-approved stickers and for selling "low-standard" fruit juice of different brands, soap and baby food. The fine was collected instantly.
Nandan was fined Tk 50,000 on the same counts, which was realized instantly too.
The magistrate told reporters that the supermarkets were selling goods despite prohibition of sales of any product without BSTI-stickers.
"Some products had become unfit for consumption, while others were close to expire," he said.
The supermarkets could not show procurement papers of some goods, the magistrate said. "Such drive will continue."
