Rathajatra



Rathajatra (Festival of Chariots), one of the biggest festivals of the Hindus, was celebrated all over Bangladesh. Hindu devotees celebrate this festival. Through it is mainly a Hindu festival, yet people from all over the region enjoy the event as a social festival. The country's biggest Rathajatra started from International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) temple in the capital's Swamibagh seeking divine blessings for universal peace and harmony. During the Festival three deities namely Jagannath, Subhadra and Baladeva are worshipped. The idols are kept inside the chariots and taken around for everyone to catch a glimpse of the gods. In the state of Orissa, at the biggest Jagannath Temple at Puri, the Festival takes huge proportions with thousands of people gathering there to partake of gods' blessings. Processions were also brought out in Sylhet, Chittagong, Comilla, Chandpur, Noakhali, Habiganj, Narsingdi, Faridpur, Bogra, Barisal and Shariatpur on the occasion.
