An alleged bandit was killed in the Rapid Action Battalion shootout at Modhupur area in Feni district hours before dawn on Friday.

The bandit was identified as Nizam Uddin. The RAB sources said that Nizam had been accrued of 23 criminal cases including murder and robbery. He was the son of Mohammad Obaidullah, hailed from Chhagolnaiya in Feni. The RAB men arrested Nizam from city's Halisahar area on Wednesday last. Staff Officer of the RAB-7 Sheikh Sariful Islam told the reporters that a team of RAB-7 along with Nizam Uddin went Mirsarai and Chhagolnaiya to recover arms and arrest his associates on Thursday.

Later, the RAB men started for Feni Sadar Upazila where some gunmen at Madhupur area near Ranibazar stopped them. As soon as the gunmen came to know the presence of RAB personnel, they stepped back and started firing.

The RAB men also replied by opening guns. In the meantime, Nizam attempted to flee from the RAB custody and came in the line of fire. He reportedly died on the spot.

The RAB men recovered three country-made rifles, a single-barrel rifle.
