Essential prices continue to rise after oil price hike

BUSINESS REPORT

Prices of almost all daily essentials including rice, edible oil and eggs have increased by 5-15 per cent following the latest price hike of fuel.

The government raised the prices of fuel products on July 1 by 36 per cent which had an impact on the prices of essentials.

Talking to The New Nation, traders in the city's different kitchen markets attributed the essentials price increment to the rising of transportation cost.

"After the price hike of oil products like octane, petrol, diesel, the transportation cost has gone up accordingly, so it leads to the rising of essential prices," a trader said.

The price of per dozen chicken eggs has gone up from Tk 67 to Tk 75.

The price of edible oil has gone up from Tk 110 per kg to Tk 120 per kg.

The traders fear the prices would go up more in the days to come as increased production and transportation cost is yet to fully hit the consumers.
