More than 16000 cases await disposal in Barisal district, sessions and judicial magistrate courts for long.

Sources said that some 974 cases are lying pending in different courts under Barisal district judge courtship till May 2008.

Besides, more than 1,497 cases have been lying unsettled in the district tribunal for prevention of repression on women and children and 13,179 cases in different courts of Barisal judicial magistracy.

The sources said Barisal was upgraded to division in 2001 and Barisal municipality upgraded to City Corporation in 2003 and Barisal metropolitan police authority and judicial magistracy were created on October 26, 2006.

After separation of judiciary, judicial magistrate courts for all of the 10 upazilas of Barisal district are yet to be established.

Advocate Abdul Manan Akon, president of Barisal district bar association said that recently secretary of law ministry visited Barisal.

During a meeting with advocates, judges and magistrates the bar association leaders urged for immediate establishment of all upazila judicial magistrate courts and judicial sessions courts for speedy disposal of the cases.
