Md Rashedur Rahman, Research Associate, Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI), was awarded the inaugural Alastair Ross Goobey Memorial Scholarship by the International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN) and Hermes Fund Managers, UK.

The scholarship was awarded by the Alastair Ross Goobey Memorial Fund at the 2008 ICGN annual conference held on June 18- 20, 2008 in Seoul, South Korea, said a BEI press release here on Wednesday.

The theme of the 2008 ICGN Annual Conference was the "Globalization of capital markets impact on corporate governance." The conference was attended by nearly 400 delegates from nearly 50 countries.

The scholarship was established in memory of Alastair Ross Goobey, former chief executive officer (CEO) of the Hermes, one of the largest pension fund managers in the United Kingdom (UK) and pioneer and champion of the global corporate governance movement.

The annual scholarship aims to support emerging leaders in the field of corporate governance.
