It is shameful It is quite surprise to me when one high-ranking police officer had theft allegation from a foreign women. Not only that this officer was also slapped by that women in his own country. It happened in a time when IGP and high-ranking police personnel's are trying to implement new police ordinance, 2008; for better service from police. Surprisingly this ASP ranking officer was also accompanied by an additional IG ranking police officer from Thailand. This type of allegation against police is not new, some days ago another high-ranking police officer had robbery allegation in Chittagong. Lower ranking police always seeking excuse for their low salary against their crime. But what will be the excuse from high-ranking officer! We are facing our image problem in foreign country already. This type of allegation added another degree toward that problem, when an officer who prevent crime, can't abstain himself from stealing an used mobile phone from a lady passenger. So many attempts are always taking for police by every government for their improvement. e.g. dress, behaviour, incentive, money for investigation, deputation in UN peace keeping with high salary, rapid promotion and now new Police ordinance-2008, for better service from Police. But what happened so far? I think no ordinance can change police unless they change their attitude from themselves. Mostafizur Rahman Post doctoral fellow, The Noble Foundation, Oklahoma, USA.
