Short Film: Amalkanti to be screened soon
ENTERTAINMENT REPORT An eleven-member team have recently made an 11-minute short film Amalkanti based on the poem of Nirendranath Chakrabarti of the same title. This film was a course work. They have submitted the film to the censor board and hope to screen it for the viewers soon. This is the story of poet Parvez Chowdhury performed the role of Amalkanti. Parvez Chowdhury said, “This is my first performance and I think this is the last. I always plan to work behind camera. I consider this performance as my orientation in filmmaking.” “The character of Amalkanti attracted me a lot and for that reason I accepted their request to perform in the film. Though I think the film could have been better, I also hope that movie lovers will enjoy the film,” he said. ARK Reepon, one of the team members said, “The film, made in 35mm format, is a training production and we experimented in making the film. We got support from different sectors, including the performance of Parvez Chowdhury.” “As it was our first production, we were excited and emotional with this film. We hope that the audience will enjoy the play,” he said. Pankaj Palit has worked as cinematographer while Syed Shabab Ali Arzoo for music and Mohammad Sazzad Zahir for editing. Students of Group-B of the 2nd Advance Film Appreciation Course 2007-08 organised by Bangladesh Film Archive have made the film. Story of Amalkanti: Amalkanti works in a poorly light room of a printing press. In his childhood he used to come to class late and could not learn his lessons. When teacher asked him lessons, he looked out of the window in incomprehension. His classmates felt a pity for him. Some of them dreamt to be teachers, doctors or lawyers. Almalkanti did not dreamt to be any of them. He dreamt to be the sunlight. All of his classmates achieved more or less what they wanted, except Amalkanti. He used to think so much about sunlight, dreamt to be the sunlight.
