Oman Air to launch daily flight from Ctg soon

The national carrier of Sultanate of Oman - Oman Air - launched its new emblem at a function held at a city hotel last night. The local management of the airlines also awarded nine of its agents for last year's sales and supporting performance. Addressing the emblem launching and agent award giving function country manager of the airlines Gihan Karunaratne said that it had started growing despite many limitations and adverse conditions here in Bangladesh. Thanking local agents and passengers for heartiest support for today's growth, he pledged even better onboard services and affordable transportation to the local passengers in the days to come. "It'll start daily flight to Muscat from Chittagong soon apart from launching operation from Dhaka by next couple of months," the country manager Gihan Karunaratne said. The Concord International, Gulf Travels, Three Star Travels, Royal Air Services, Air Bengal International, Chittagong Air Express, Eastern Travels, Zam Zam Travels and Accom Aviation Services were among the agents awarded for business generation.

Ebara absorption chiller launched in Bangladesh : Park Technology Ltd appointed sole distributor

IFIC Bank celebrates 25th founding anniversary



IFIC Bank Limited, a first generation private sector commercial bank has celebrated its 25th Founding Anniversary on Tuesday.

On this occasion, all the 70 branches of the bank were tastefully decorated with danglers, festoons and balloons. Flowers, cakes and sweets were also distributed among the clients.

Karnaphuli Insurance's premium earning rises

The half-yearly business meeting of the branch in charges of Karnaphuli Insurance Company Ltd was held recently in the board room of head office of the company.

2000 jobs to be available in real estate industry: DIU introduces Bachelor of Real Estate programme

Daffodil International University (DIU), one of the leading private universities of the country, yesterday introduced a four-year 'Bachelor of Real Estate (BRE)' programme for the first time in Bangladesh.

Such a programme is now available at two universities of two countries of South Asia only.

The four-year BRE programme will cost Tk 2,40,200.

Chairman of DIU Sabur Khan along with the President of Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) Tanveerul Haque Probal inaugurated the Real Estate Department at DIU yesterday in presence of a large number of students.

Speaking on the occasion, Tanveerul Haque Probal said since there is no scope of constructing buildings in the Dhaka city, students should develop their mentality for working at countryside and suburbs.

He recommended the board of directors of the DIU to incorporate technical, architectural and civil engineering concepts in the course apart from the concept of business. The REHAB president also informed that some 2,000 posts would be created in the real estate industry in next few months and the BRE degree holders would get priority for these posts.

Terming the real estate 'a blooming industry,' Sabur Khan said, "There are lots of job opportunities in this sector if we can teach our students properly."

He also mentioned that DIU has taken an initiative to incorporate some courses on real estate in the curricula of B.Com, BBA and MBA with a view to meeting the existing needs of real estate companies of the country.

Mizanur Rahman, Head of the Real Estate Department said real estate is one of the most promising and important sectors of business. As shelter is a basic need of human beings the course would enrich students knowledge and understanding in the field of real state which in turn provide service for the nation, he added.

Pollutech Bangladesh begins today in city

A three-day international exhibition, dubbed 'Pollutech Bangladesh 2008' begins today in the capital where different machinery and instruments on pollution control and environment management will be exhibited.

Adroit Environment Consultants is organizing the exhibition at Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Centre in the city. The Water Today is the co-organiser of the event.

Dr Nasir Uddin Khan, Managing Director of Adroit Environment Consultants, said this at a press conference held at National Press Club in the city yesterday.

Narrating the present adverse impacts of environmental pollution in Bangladesh, he laid emphasis on raising public awareness to solve the problem.

BLMEA holds 6th AGM Names of new EC members announced



The 6th Annual General Meeting of Bangladesh Label Manufacturers and Exporters Association was held on Tuesday at the office of the Association.

Shibbir Mahmud, Acting President of the Association presided over the meeting. A good number of members were present in the meeting.

The meeting reviewed the overall performance and position of the label industries sector of the country which has an investment of Tk 5000 crore (US$700 million) involving about 40,000 manpower. The total volume of export amounted to US$500 million during the year under report with an annual growth rate of about 20 per cent every year.

The meeting adopted the Annual Report of the Executive Committee and Audited Accounts of the Association for the year 2007.

The names of the seven members Executive Committee elected for the next two years term (2008-2010) were announced in the meeting. Shahjahan Chowdhury new GM of Krishi Bank



Md Shahjahan Chowdhury, on promotion, joined Bangldesh Krishi Bank as General Manager recently. Prior to this assignment, he was the Deputy General Manager of Sonali Bank Limited.

He started his banking career as Class-1 Probationary Officer of Sonali Bank in 1977. During his chequered banking career in Sonali Bank he worked as Manager in different branches, as DGM of corporate branches like Dhaka Cantonment, Wage Earners', Shilpa Bhaban, Local Office etc, as Regional Manager at Natore, Chandpur and Pabna.

Md Shahjahan Chowdhury received his BA (Hons) and MA degrees as first batch student of International Relations Department of Dhaka University and also obtained Banking Diploma from IBB. He underwent various advanced training and received different awards for his outstanding performances on banking. He visited USA, UK, France, Canada, India, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and Qatar for professional and personal reasons. He is also associated with different socio-cultural organizations. Born in Narayanganj district, Shahjahan Chowdhury is blessed with one son.

Meghna Life Insurance to launch 'Swanirvar Bima' Division



At present, Meghna Life Insurance Co Ltd is conducting business under four divisions viz Ekok, Loko, Islami Bima (Takaful) and Islami Khudro Bima (Takaful).

4th Indian textile exhibition ITEXPO 2008 concludes



The 4th Indian Textile Exhibition ITEXPO 2008 ended successfully recently at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the city.

The expo was organised by the Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Promotion Council, India (SRTEPC), in association with High Commission of India with support from BGMEA and BKMEA.

Ratan Glitter Industry and Silk Mills, the pioneer in the Indian metallic yarn industry and the largest manufacturer of metallic fabric for the last 35 years, took part in the expo drawing a huge attention from the local buyers and visitors on its diversified product lines.

Their product lines put on display included raw materials like polyester metallic pure silver and aluminum grade yarn of different colour and size, glitter powder, sequins along with fabrics and embroidery items etc.
