A two-week long annual musical festival Fête de la Musique which is being jointly organized by Alliance Française de Dacca and the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University, will begin tomorrow (Saturday, 21 June) amid festivity and enthusiasm in the capital city Dhaka.

Alliance Française de Dacca is ready not only to welcome large audiences everyday from 6 P.M to 8 P.M. but also the musicians as well to perform free of charges during the musical festival.

Besides Alliance Française, concerts will also be organized every day in different places such as TSC of Dhaka University, Russian Cultural Center, Hotel Regency and Jahangir Nadar University.

This musical festival, completely different from any other regular concerts, will come to an end on 2 July with a huge concert at TSC conveniently located at the heart of the Dhaka University campus. All the concerts of the musical festival are totally free and open to all, irrespective of age and education. It gives an ample opportunity to communicate and share a very special moment through music.

Launched in 1982 by the French Ministry for Culture, the Fête de la Musique has long been organizing in more than hundred countries across the globe. It takes place on 21st June, the day of the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere. The main objective of organizing such an event all over the world is not only to popularize the musical practices among the people of the global village, but also to uphold their respective cultural and social norms and values.

Thanks to the impulse and the dynamism of the French cultural network abroad (The departments of Cultural Affairs at the French Embassies, French cultural Centers and Institutes and the Alliances Françaises) the Fête has an important international growth. Indeed, a lot of events are now set up by local organizers (Ministries for Culture, City Councils, local artistic associations, etc.).
