One killed in road mishap

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, June 18: One person was killed and four others were injured in two separate accidents in the district on Monday. The dead was identified as Naimul Hoque 45, a fish dealer of Mihonpur village under Godagari upazila of Rajshahi district. Locals said that the accident took place when a Chapainawabganj bound passenger bus from Dhaka hit Naimul from behind at Dariapur under Sadar Upazila, reports BSS.



Workshop on HIV/AIDS held in Chandpur

CHANDPUR, June 18: A day-long workshop on HIV/AIDS was held in the district headquarters on Thursday last. Organised by Bangladesh Human Rights Journalists Forum, the workshop was held at the auditorium of Chandpur Modernised Hospital. With Kazi Shahadat, President of Chandour Press Club in the chair, the workshop was addressed, among others, by Dr Sirajul Islam, BM Hannan, Nazrul Islam and Golam Kibria Jibon, reports BSS.



DAE trainers training course held in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, June 18: Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Narsingdi, organised a day-long trainers training course on the technique of increasing production of paddy at its training room on Thursday last. A total of 30 Sub-Assistant agriculture Officers (block supervisors) and NGO representatives took part in the training course. The training was organised aiming at motivating the farmers to use modern agricultural knowledge and techniques for increasing the production of paddy in the country, reports BSS.

Valuables gutted

CHITTAGONG, June 18: Valuables of a motor-cycle workshop were gutted in a fire at Dewanhat in the city on Sunday afternoon. The fire was originated from an electric short circuit at around 2.20 pm on Sunday and extinguished by the Fire Service personnel after 40 minutes efforts, sources said, reports BSS.



Prisoner dies in Ctg Jail

CHITTAGONG, June 18: A prisoner in Chittagong Central Jail died at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) today. The prisoner, Mong Wah, son of Waithe Pru of Rangamati district, felt sick suddenly after having breakfast. He was taken to jail hospital immediately and later shifted to CMCH for better treatment, jail and hospital sources said. On-duty doctors at the Emergency department of CMCH confirmed his death soon after his arrival there, reports BSS.



Listed terrorist held

BENAPOLE, Jessore, June 18: Police arrested a listed terrorist with a country-made shutter gun and two bullets from Shamgachi village under Sarsa Upazila of the district on Monday. The arrested terrorist was identified as Golam Mostafa Minto, 35, son of Abdul Majid of the same village. Police said, acting on a tip off, a team of the police raided the village and arrested Minto with firearms, reports BSS.



Prices of vegetables lower in Netrakona

NETRAKONA, June 18: Prices of vegetables have started coming down in the district as the harvesting of summer vegetables including ladies finger, cucumber, amaranths, spinach, arum and bottle- gourd has been going in full swing in the district. Sources said people of low-income group heaved a sigh of relief due to lower price of vegetables in the markets. Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said, 25,000 metric tons of summer vegetables are expected to be produced in ten upazilas of the district where 1,700 hectares of land were brought under the vegetables cultivation this year, reports BSS.
