World Day against Child Labour was observed in the district on Friday in a befitting manner. The theme of the year is "Education is right response to child labour".

In observance of the day, Child Labour Elimination Action Network (CLEAN), a forum of NGOs, organised programmes with the assistance of Manusher Jannyo Foundation and ILO.

The programmes included rally, discussion meeting and art competition for children.

A colourful rally led by Deputy Commissioner Abu Muhammad Yousuf was brought out and paraded the main streets in the town. Later, a discussion meeting was held at Public Library auditorium.

Anwarul Hasan Sabur, Poura chairman, attended the meeting as the chief guest.

With Abul Hossain Mandal, labour organiser, in the chair, it was addressed, among others, by panel chairman of Gaibandha Pourasabha Abdul Hai and executive director of Akota M Lutfar Rahman Mondal.

The speakers laid emphasis on protecting children from risky and hazardous jobs.
