Ms Nargis Ahmed, president of Bangladesh Society New York, was honored with an award from District Council 37, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) in recognition of her contribution and leadership to the Asian-American community on June 6 last. Nargis Ahmed is the first female president of Bangladesh Society New York, which was established in 1975 and has since become the largest Bangladeshi organization abroad. This is the most recent of many awards that have been granted to her over the years for her tireless dedication to her community, some of which include a commendation plaque from the New York City Comptroller and also a Proclamation from the New York City Council.
