Strengthening a good move

As reported by BSS and published in our local Press, speakers at a discussion meeting recently held in New York called the Chief of Bangladesh Army Staff General Moeen U Ahmed a patriotic man and an exceptional army chief.

'Jago Bangladesh', USA organised the meeting for an evaluation on the army Chief's recently published book titled-"Nirbachita Sangkalan", a compilation of speeches delivered by Gen. Moeen on different occasions. The speakers expressed their hope that the people of Bangladesh would accept the philosophy of Gen. Moeen and strengthen his hands for the country's development and prosperity.

I fully endorse the above observations made in appreciation of Gen.Moeen. Indeed, he is a highly committed and dedicated person. Being the army Chief he maintains a pure and deep feeling for the welfare of Bangladesh and its people. On a number of development and welfare issues Gen. Moeen tried to make his positive and effective contributions. One of his latest initiatives was to make people aware and more conscious about the importance of consuming potato as a supplementary food. I take this opportunity to sincerely congratulate Gen. Moeen U Ahmed and urge our countrymen to strengthen this patriot's hands for the development and prosperity of our country.

Open Biotechnology Division

Recently agricultural experts urged the government to set up a biotechnology division to boost agricultural research with a view to enhancing food security in both quantity and quality. This suggestion was made in the inaugural session of a two-day 'International Biotechnology Conference' held at Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) which was presided over by Dr. M A Razzaque, Executive Chairman, BARC and attended among others by eminent agricultural scientist Dr.Kazi M Badruddoza as the chief guest.

There is no doubt that biotechnology research can bring a revolutionary improvement in our crop production and food security. It may be mentioned here that the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka has already set up a separate department of biotechnology. Now the proposal for setting up a Biotechnology Division is quite logical and appropriate in the present context.
