A total of 780 destitute mothers in four upazilas of the district have received their maternity allowance for the first time under the Maternity Allowance programme introduced by the government in July, 2007. Official sources said women affairs department of the district has disbursed a sum of Taka 14.04 lakh among 780 poor mothers covering six months (July-December 2007) in four upazilas of the district.

Each of the mothers has received Taka 1,800 as a rate of monthly allowance Taka 300.

Of the total allowance, Taka 2.97 lakh was distributed among 165 mothers in 11 unions of Monohardi upazila, Taka 2.16 lakh among 120 mothers in 8 unions of Belabo upazila, Taka 2.43 lakh among 135 mothers in 9 unions of Shibpur upazila and Taka 6.84 lakh among 380 mothers in 24 unions at Raipura upazila.
