Anti-crime drive: 2,039 more arrested, arms recovered

At least 16,000 people, including activists of mainstream political parties, have been arrested by law enforcing agencies in the anti-crime crackdown launched across the country till May 28.

A press release issued by the Police headquarters yesterday said 2,039 people were arrested in the past 24 hours. The law enforcers also recovered

six firearms, 18 hand bombs, and 270 rounds of bullet during the period, it added.

Besides, 54 motorbikes were seized for not having valid documents and 316 cases were filed under the Motor Vehicle Act during the drive. Benapole, RAB members recovered a pistol and two rounds of bullet from Bhaberber village here early Friday. None, however, was arrested in this connection.

In another drive, police recovered 100 bottles of phensidyl and arrested three drug traders, Firoza Begum, Halima Begum and Ikramul, from Sadipur village at the same time.
