Death Penalty

Mother earth is fast losing its natural habitat with the rhythm of time. More than 50% rivers have lost their beauty and natural flow at the hostile hands of pollution and human activities. Bangladesh is a country of more than 250 rivers and 500 lakes. But now the present scenario is taking a different shape. Unplanned urbanization with unhealthy industrialization has made Bangladesh sick. Polluted rivers and lakes have poisoned the environment.

Commercialism and reclamation of land has increased the dimension of the clash between water, earth and human activity. There is neither stable planning nor any supervision. Our enrichment depends on rivers and we the advanced species have stopped the very natural flow of these majestic rivers. We have loaded the rivers with sands and converted them into deserts. Buriganga, Bongshi, Balu and Turag are the living proof of these heinous murders.

River Balu: it seems as if the lifeblood has been wrenched out from its very entity. Even the trees are beyond rejuvenation. Look at Burignga ! A witness of bygone times, lost glory and a symbol of haunting beauty. Turag: the once wild and tumultuous river is unrecognizable! There is nothing here but man-made emblems of glamorous concretes.

It is true that throughout the annals of time man has always reclaimed land from the numerous water bodies. But we have grabbed the natural system and pushed it beyond the limits. That's why today wherever we turn we find nothing but stiff, lifeless nature. We have welcomed destruction and repentance.
