Extremist killed in shootout with police in Jhenidah

A leader of an outlawed party was killed in a shootout between his cohorts and police at Dhopabila village in sadar upazila early Tuesday.

The dead was identified Abdus Sattat,45, regional commander of Purbo Bangla Communist Party (Jonojuddha).

Police arrested Sattar from Garaganj area in Shailakupa upazila Monday night.

According to his statement, police went to his village for recovering arms early on Thursday.

Police said when they were recovering arms from a date garden Sattar' s cohorts hurled a bomb towards them, forcing them to fire that triggered a gun battle at about 5am.

After the gun battle police recovered the bullet-ridden body of Sattar from the spot.

Police said Sattar was wanted in six cases including a murder case.

Two bombs, three bullets and a gun were recovered from the scene.
