ACC approves chargesheet against Jalil

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to submit charge sheet against 15 people including, Awami League General Secretary Abdul Jalil for amassing illegal wealth, hiding information about it and illegal money transaction. Jalil is now under treatment in Singapore. He was freed on parole.

ACC Director General (Admin) Col Hanif Iqbal told the Commission's regular briefing yesterday that the anti-graft watchdog has approved the submission of the charge sheet.

Jalil will be charge-sheeted for acquiring wealth worth Tk 35.08 lakh beyond his known source of income and concealing information about assets worth Tk 36.04 lakh.

The AL leader will also be charged with illegal money transfer and hiding information about money amounting to Tk 5 crore.

The charge sheet in the case was filed with Ramna Police Station on December 18, 2007.

The Commission has also approved the submission of charge sheets in the cases against former BNP MP Major (retd) Manjur Quader and 11 others, AL religious affairs secretary Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, typist and personal officer of Land Ministry Kutubuddin Ahmed and former RHD administrative officer and CBA leader Abul Kalam Shamsuddin, Hanif added.
