They were speaking at a discussion on 'Budget for 2008-09: Reality and Expectation' y organised by Economic Reporters' Forum (ERF) at Dhaka Reporters' Unit. President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Annisul Huq sought one last chance for businessmen to legalise undeclared money.  |

The United States does not want to see a repeat of Pakistan President Gen Pervez Musharraf government's nemesis in Bangladesh, said the new American envoy Wednesday in his elaborate remarks on the country's political scenario. "Pakistani President Musharraf had accomplished a lot of things and initially he had some sort of popularity. But, at last, his government had to face downfall. We don't want to see that sort of development in Bangladesh also," said James Moriarty at a luncheon meeting of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) at the Sheraton Hotel.  |
Aga Khan meets President: World ties with Ismaili community to grow

President Professor Dr Iajuddin Ahmed and visiting Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslim Community Prince Karim Aga Khan on Wednesday expressed hope that the ties between Bangladesh and Ismaili community would be strengthened further with the expanding cooperation in various fields of development of the country. Foreign Affair Adviser Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury said this when he was talking to the reporters emerging out of a call on meeting between the President and the Ismaili community Chief at Bangabhaban here.  |
Roundtable on national govt: Election by Dec must for restoring democracy BSS, Dhaka
Speakers at a roundtable here on Wednesday said the country must return to democracy by January next under honest and dedicated leadership through a free and fair election. If there are necessities for consensus on certain political agenda specially a national government that may be formed by the elected leaders after the election, they said.
