Willful contradictions
Most of the national dailies are carrying an advertisement for several days informing (or cautioning) the members of the public about the plying of vehicles through Meghna-Gomti Bridge where annual maintanence works are being carried on commencing from May 15.
One advertisement has been issued by the Superintendent Engineer, Dhaka Circle, Roads & Highways Division and the other one by the Executive Engineer (XEN), Narayangonj, Roads & Highways Division. In both the ads the subject remains the same but the terms differ in context and dimensions.
The adivertisement issued by the Supdt. Engineer set terms that only the light transports shall be allowed to use the bridge under certain rigid conditions. No heavy transport would be allowed to use the bridge.
The heavy vehicles have been directed to use the alternative route of Moynamati-Bhairab road. But the advertisement released by XEN's office has set just the opposite terms and directions.
Thus, the big question is who is right, who is the real authority? Members of the public are just confused for this sharp contradiction.
Interestingly, both the ads appeared in the same date (and same pages). What a galoring example of lack of coordination! Perhaps, this is the real face of our bureaucracy and professionlism.
