Dutch envoy meets Iftekhar

Dutch Ambassador Bea ten Tusscher on Sunday called on Foreign Adviser Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury and discussed the prospects of widening economic and political relations between the two friendly countries.
"The Netherlands is an important member of the European Union and so Bangladesh places a great significance on cooperation with the Netherlands both bilaterally and as a member of that important regional group," Dr. Iftekhar Chowdhury told the Ambassador at the Foreign Ministry.
The Foreign Adviser invited Dutch investments into Bangladesh and hoped that trade and commercial relations between Bangladesh and the Netherlands would grow further.
They discussed a possible visit by the Foreign Adviser to the Netherlands in September to hold discussions with the Dutch authorities.
The Dutch Ambassador stated that this would help underscore the deepening ties with the two countries.
ICB-Silverlake signs partnership agreement

The ICB Islamic Bank (ICB) has entered into a strategic IT and Solution Provider Partnership agreement with Silverlake Corporation.
The partnership, which was inked down yesterday at a local hotel in the capital, is expected to enable ICB to serve its clients in a technologically advanced Islamic Core Banking system.
Under the agreement, Silverlake will provide Silverlake Axix Islamic Integrated Banking Software (SIIBS) licence and implementation services including project implementation and maintenance services.
Managing Director of ICB Islamic Bank A Latif Yahya and President of Silverlake KP Tan signed the partnership agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.
Gynecologist Shahla Khatun to undergo surgery in Singapore

Dr Shahla Khatun, renowned gynecologist and obstetrician and Professor of Bangladesh Medical College, will undergo critical surgery at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore today.
She is the eldest sister of Sheepa Hafiza, Director of Human Resources of BRAC. Her family members have requested her friends, relatives and well wishers to pray for the success of her operation, said a press release.
Turkey to provide assistance in building 1,000 cyclone shelters in Patuakhali

Turkey will provide assistance in building 1,000 cyclone shelters and schools in Golachipa of Patuakhali district.
Apart from US$ 1,00,000 grant of Turkey Government, the Turkish people and NGOs will arrange the cyclone shelters and schools. It was disclosed when a three-member delegation of Turkish Parliamentarians, led by Hüseyin TUGCU, met with Foreign Adviser Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury at his office today.
The delegation also had representatives of Turkish NGOs. Dr Iftekhar Chowdhury thanked the delegation and stated that this act of generosity demonstrated the close relations existing between "our two Governments and Peoples".
They also discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and the means to expand them in the future.
