Prices of vegetables down in Narsingdi

Prices of summer vegetables have marked fall as the supply of vegetables in the markets of the district is sufficient.

Farmers of the district have achieved satisfactory yield of various vegetables due to favourable climatic condition and adoption of modern technology. Market sources said lady's finger and cucumber are being sold at Taka 8 to 10 per kg, brinjal, jhinga and potol at Taka 12 to 15 per kg, Kakrol, korola and borboti are being sold at Taka 10 to 12 per kg, green chilli is being sold at Taka 15 per kg.

Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Mokhlesur Rahman told BSS that the DAE had fixed to bring 5,200 hectares of land under vegetable cultivation in the district with a production target of 52,500 tons of vegetables. But the farmers of the district brought 55,400 hectares of land under vegetable cultivation this season, he added.
