A total of 3,61,655 children aged between 1 and 5 were administered with Vitamin A capsule in all seven upazilas of the district on Saturday under the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign 2008.

Besides, 2,92,522 children aged between 2 and 5 were given anti-helminthes tablet each in the district, sources said. Deputy Commissioner Abu Muhammad Yousuf inaugurated the campaign on the premises of Sadar Upazila health complex on Saturday by administering the children with Vitamin A capsule as the chief guest. On the other hand, Major M. Jahangir Hossain of Gaibandha Army camp also inaugurated the campaign on the premises of Palashbari Upazila health complex on the day.

Civil Surgeon Dr M. Shamsul Haque was also present on the occasion.

In order to make the campaign a success, a total of 934 health assistants and family welfare assistants, 5,610 volunteers and 260 supervisors were engaged in 2,114 centres throughout the district.
