Rich tributes paid to Ramesh Shil Our Correspondent, Chittagong Speakers at a gathering here on Saturday paid rich tributes to late versifier (Kabial) Ramesh Shil and recalled his outstanding contributions in flourishing the country's folk culture. "Ramesh Shil is a history of our folk culture whose verse was great source and inspiration of courage and strength, " they said. They urged the persons involved in the cultural and literature fields to uphold the contribution of the internationally renowned Ekushey Medal winner versifier by research on his life and works. Kobial Ramesh Shil Smriti Sangsad, Bangladesh organised the discussion to mark his 131st birth anniversary at city's Mawlana Islamabadi Memorial Hall on Saurday afternoon. Presided over by Sangsad President engineer Chandan Das, the discussion wad addressed among others by eminent scientist Prof Emirates Dr. Jamal Nazrul Islam, Assistant Editor of the Daily Azadi Aurun Das Gupta, General Secretary of Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) Najimuddin Shymol Folk researcher Dr Selim Jahangir, Mrinal Chowdhury, Mahbub Hasan, Prof Alex Alim and Kobial Abdul Aziz Sarkar while Abul Fazal Babul conducted it. Jamal Nazrul Islam said that Ramesh Shil had introduced renaissance in the country's cultural field through his huge contribution in folk culture. The discussion was followed by a cultural function where noted Kobial performed Ramesh songs.
