Lalbagh 7-murder case: 2 to die, 9 get life term UNB, Dhaka A court here on Wednesday sentenced two people to death and nine others to life term imprisonment in sensational seven-murder case in Lalbagh in the city. The condemned convicts Abdus Salam and Zahid Hossain were tried in absentia. The lifers are Abdul Alim, Munna, Kalu, Delwar Hossain, Amir Hossain and four others - Monir Patwari, Dil Mohammad, Mahtab Hossain and Mozammel - were also tried in absentia. According to the prosecution, the supporters of the defeated ward commissioner candidate Abdul Aziz attacked a victory procession of winning candidate M Humayun Kabir with arms killing seven people on January 30, 1994 just after the election of Dhaka City Corporation. After the incident, the elected commissioner filed a murder case against Abdul Aziz and 18 others. ing the records and 30 witnesses, Judge of the Crime Prevention Tribunal ATM Musa handed down the verdict in the crowded court. The court also acquitted eight people, including Abdul Aziz, of the murder charge. Another accused Abdul Mazid, father of Abdul Aziz, died during the trial of the case.
