Barisal journalists on Saturday observing World Press Freedom Day called for responsible journalism with accountability and transparency by developing professionalism to ensure freedom of journalism.

Barisal Reporters Unity organized rally on city roads and discussion meeting at BRU premises to observe the day.

Nasim Ul Alam, BRU president presided over and Kamal Masudur Rahman and Sushanta Ghosh of BRU, Anisur Rahman Swapan, Swapan Khondokar of Barisal Metropolitan Journalist Union, Kazi Makbul Hossain of Barisal Journalist Union, Nurul Alam Farid of Barisal Press Club, addressed the discussion meeting. The speakers said freedom of journalism often obstacle by media owners, policy makers of the state and government, which ultimately suffers the whole nation.

They asked assurance for free flow of information and freedom of speech as the basic rights of the citizens, as well as continuing self-criticism and process of self-development of the journalist.
