Hasina's warning against those making her life a hell

UNB, Dhaka

Former premier and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina, detained on corruption charges, yesterday forewarned those who made her life a misery on baseless allegations would have to repent to her someday for their "misdeeds".

"They must keep in mind I am daughter of the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. I did not commit any wrong during my rule," she said while consulting her lawyers in the special court holding her trial in barge-mounted power-plant case.

Sticking to her guns, Hasina reaffirmed her determination to contest the next parliamentary elections defying any "pressure" or "conspiracy" by any quarters.

"Since Almighty Allah is with me, I cannot disregard people's unalloyed confidence in me. I must contest the elections. I hope people will elect me again to serve the country."

Hasina apprehended that she would not get justice under the present authorities.

Meanwhile, the arraignment hearing on the barge-mounted power-plant case was adjourned until May 12 following the submissions made by the counsel for co-accused Dr Toufique-e-Elahi Chowdhury, former secretary to the Ministry of Power and Energy.
