Women rights not possible ignoring Muslim inheritance laws Staff Reporter Speakers at a roundtable yesterday said the women rights couldn't be ensured ignoring the Muslim inheritance laws in the country. They said Islam gave adequate rights and respect to the women and Islamic laws are for the well being of the women. Nari Odhikar Andolan organised the roundtable styled "Women Rights in Islam" at the National Press Club in the city. President of the Andolan Prof Chamon Ara presided over the meeting, while Samsun Nahar Nizami, Principal of Islamic International School, Syeda Razia Sultana, Associate Professor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dr UK Rawzatur Rahman, Teacher of Chemistry Department, Dhaka University, former MP Rokeya Sultana, Hasna Hena, Adviser of the organisation, Dr Mira Mamtaz Sabera and Dr Ferdous Ara Bakul, among others, addressed the roundtable. The speakers claimed that of few women supported the Women Development Policy and demanded its establishment. Samsun Nahar Nizami said an imposed Women Development Policy would create social chaos in the Muslim majority-country. She said if the policymakers were sincere to the rights and respect of the women, they should adopt the women policy in accordance with the laws in the Qur'an. Dr UK Rawzatur Rahman said female and male are physically different, so their works and rights should be different. She also said women under Islam are not deprived at all, rather in the some cases they enjoy much more privileges than the males. General Secretary of the Andolan Dr Shahnur moderated the function.
