A taskforce of the Anti-Corruption Commission has detected that former BNP Whip Shahidul Huq Jamal and his family members have huge property worth Tk 150 crore beyond their known sources of income.

Taskforce officials, wishing anonymity, Tuesday said in their primary investigation they found that Jamal and his family members own movable and immovable property worth Tk 150 crore although Jamal in his wealth statement claimed that he owns property worth only Tk 64 lakh.

In his wealth statement submitted to the ACC, Jamal also mentioned that his family members, including wife, three sons and daughter, have their own sources of income, as they are well established businesspersons and are not dependent on him.

Jamal's name appeared on one of the lists of corrupt suspects published by the ACC after the 1/11.

After submission of his statement early this month, the ACC taskforce visited Barisal, Banaripara, Swarupkati and Dhaka last week to verify Jamal's wealth statement.
